Summary
Jason Stafford has just been released from a 2-year stint in a federal prison for securities fraud when he is asked by the CEO of a major Wall Street firm to look into irregularities with some of their traders. He jumps at the chance to make some money since most of his old colleagues won't talk to him. To make matters worse, his ex-wife has taken their autistic son back to Louisiana and then dumped him off at his grandmother's. Can Jason redeem himself and restore his reputation? Or, will the risk be too great?
Critique
According to the author, this is a story about one man's struggle against the "self-regulating" system of Wall Street that too often lets misconduct and greed go unpunished. I couldn't agree more. The workings of the stock market leave me clueless, but I was fascinated by the way Jason found the patterns in the trades and linked them to the corruption. The most interesting part of the story was Jason's autistic son, "The Kid" which gave the whole novel heart. Highly recommend!
