Summary
When the socialite wife of a local doctor turns up dead, devout Mormon sheriff’s deputy Art Oveson and his foul-mouthed partner, Roscoe Lund, set out to crack the case that outwardly appears to be open-and-shut. Realizing that things don't add up, Oveson pursues a search that uncovers Salt Lake City's dirty little secrets, and he must attempt to balance his squeaky clean lifestyle with the rule breaking required to find the murderer.
Critique
This compelling hard-boiled mystery is based on a true story and keeps the reader guessing, and educates about the history of Salt Lake City and Mormonism along the way. Oveson is a well-drawn character whose career struggles feel realistic. Readers will hope to see him in a sequel. Highly recommend.
