Summary
Six months before she is to be executed for capital murder, Noa P. Singleton is visited by the mother of her victim. Marlene Dixon says she has had a change of heart and now believes Noa should continue to be incarcerated rather than face execution. For this chance of clemency, Noa must recount every detail of the events of the day Sarah Dixon died--a day that she has thus far refused speak about, even at her trial.
Critique
Noa is a fascinating character, introspective from years of incarceration and unreliable. Her version of events, teased out for the reader along the way, is hard to put down. This clever first novel is suspenseful and mesmerizing and will keep you guessing until its final pages.
