Summary
When Jacob Hargrave, who died on his eighth birthday in 1966, arrives on his parent's doorstep fifty years later, he has not aged. Now elderly, Harold and Lucille Hargrave aren't sure what to believe about the return of their young son. As people's loved ones come back from the beyond all around the world, the reemergence of these "Returned" brings out the worst in the living. Soon, the government and military begin imprisoning the no-longer-dead and their supporters. Even the Hargrave's aren't safe in their once-peaceful town of Arcadia, North Carolina.
Critique
This moving debut novel about love and family, death and dying and the human connection, has already been optioned for TV. This emotionally-charged and quietly suspenseful book will linger in the reader's mind.
