Summary
It's 1950 and seventeen-year-old Josie starts the new year in The French Quarter of New Orleans with a big dream. She wants to escape her life as the daughter of a prostitute and make a respectable life for herself as a college student. Just when it seems like this could happen Josie finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation.
Critique
A simple plot involving secrets, lies, and murder is just the first layer of this complex story. Josie is a strong heroine, surrounded by a colorful cast of characters. She weathers heartbreak and injustice and comes out on top thanks to her unlikely friends. Powerful and lovely.
