Summary
Caleb Barbour moves to Portland from Georgia with his slaves Worthy Brown and Worthy's daughter Roxanne. Worthy and Roxanne are constitutionally freed when they get to Oregon, but Barbour refuses to release the 15-year-old. With the help of lawyer Matthew Penny, Worthy sues his former master for Rosanne's freedom.
Critique
According to the author, the novel took 30 years to write and is based an an actual legal suit. A quick compelling read with very short chapters.
