Summary
Darrow is a 'Red,' a member of the lowliest class among the futures' color-coded society of humans living on Mars and working to make the planet livable. As a Red, Darrow spends days as a miner living in miserable conditions beneath the planet's surface. Despite his lowly lot in life, he's found fulfillment in his work, in his marriage to wife Eo and in his close friendships. When Darrow discovers a horrible secret--that Reds are nothing more than slaves for higher classes, he sacrifices everything to infiltrate the academy that trains the dominant Golds.
Critique
This action-packed first in a trilogy is a brilliant but very violent read. For grown up fans of "The Hunger Games" and dystopian fiction. Brown's attention to detail and fully realized characters help him put a fresh spin on familiar themes. Just try putting this book down.
