Summary
After the death of his wife, Will Rees leaves his son behind with his sister Caroline and her husband Samuel Prentiss. Will becomes a traveling weaver even though the farm belongs to him and his son David. The Prentiss' treat David like an unpaid laborer. David runs away and joins a Shaker community. When Will returns home, he wants to reconnect with his son at the Shaker settlement. There Sister Chastity, formerly Catherine Parker, is found dead. Elder White asks Will to participate in the murder investigation which may also provide answers to the disappearance of two male Shakers years before.
Critique
This is the first entry in the Will Rees mystery series. It provides a close look at a vanished community.
