Summary
Georgie McCool's marriage has been in trouble for a while, but she doesn't get her wake up call until her husband Neal takes the kids to his mom's house for Christmas - without Georgie. She and her writing partner have finally gotten the big TV break they have been working for and that means long hours of work, even on Christmas. Confused and alone, Georgie heads to her own childhood home, where she discovers a way to talk to Neal in the past. It sounds crazy, but it may just be the key to saving her marriage.
Critique
Despite the unusual element of magic, this latest novel by Rainbow Rowell is grimly realistic. Georgie struggles with family issues, marriage troubles, and a failure to balance her career and her relationships. This is more than just a story about a marriage on the rocks. Moving, with a touch of humor, this book may leave readers wondering "what if...?"
