Summary
As author Marcus Goldman sets out to write his second masterpiece, he gets a mean case of writer's block. He returns to the small New Hampshire town to ask for help and inspiration from his former college professor and personal hero, the prize-winning writer, Harry Quebert. Harry has his own problems--he's been charged for murder after the discovery of a decades-old corpse on his property. Could Harry have killed his one-time, underage lover Nola Kellergan? Marcus doesn't think so, and he sets out to write the truth.
Critique
This English translation of a national bestseller and award-winner is a compulsively readable, Lolita-esque mystery. Chock full of red herrings and jaw dropping reveals, this book within a book is worth the read, despite some incredible plot lines. Soon to be made into a film by director Ron Howard.
