Summary
Dorothy Gale returns from Oz to Kansas and to her old, not-so-glamorous life on her Aunt and Uncle's farm. After two years of boredom there, she is granted a birthday wish and returns to Oz, reuniting with the Tinman, Scarecrow, and Lion to help save Glinda, the good witch, whose life is in danger. Along the way, Dorothy discovers she has magical powers, and she begins to use them in order to get people to do what she wants. Soon power-hungry, Dorothy dethrones Ozma, the queen of Oz, and thus begins her own reign of terror.
Critique
This novella is a prequel to "Dorothy Must Die" and fills in some unanswered questions. This dark re-imagining of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is fun, action-packed reading that will make you think about the pitfalls of power, greed and popularity.
