Summary
A detective in the Dublin Police Department's Cold Case division, Stephen Moran, is approached with a clue that could help solve the year-old murder of a teenage boy on the grounds of the all-girl boarding school, St. Kilda's. Believing this is his chance to get promoted to the Dublin Murder Squad, Stephen takes the clue to the antagonistic Antoinette Conway, the detective in charge of the case. Conway is not Stephen's biggest problem though--it was Holly Mackey, 16-year-old Kilda's student and the daughter of Dublin Murder Squad's Detective Frank Mackey, who brought Stephen the clue. Conway allows Stephen to interview the group of girls who are suspects, but Stephen must tread very carefully or risk botching both the investigation--and his career.
Critique
The events in this book take place within a 24-hour period and lead the reader into an unexpectedly dark and dangerous world of teenage girls' cliques. As with all others in her Dublin Murder Squad mystery series, French has delivered a well-written, suspenseful, and compelling character-driven mystery.
