Summary
Roberto "Sandy" Sanchez is a retired Baltimore detective who now makes his living as a consultant to the department working cold cases. He's looking into the murder of Julie Saxony. When Julie went missing in 1986 everyone assumed she'd went off to join her old lover, Felix Brewer, who had abandoned his wife and kids when he went on the lam in 1976 to avoid doing jail time. Now it's thirty-six years later and, as Sandy investigates Julie's murder, he discovers a tangled web that connects five women and a missing pile of money. Has the trail gone cold or can Sandy find the killer?
Critique
A well-plotted mystery with good character development. Told in a non-linear style and in flashbacks, this is one to savor rather than tear right through. As usual, Lippman delivers another winner.
