Summary
Ravka was a prosperous nation until the shadow fold, a strip of darkness that is home to monsters, split the country in two. Alina Starkov is an orphan and a cartographer for the army. In the heat of a battle, she unleashes a previously unknown power. She is whisked away to the palace to be trained as a Grisha, a member of the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.
Critique
Nothing is as it seems in this magical fantasy debut. The world of the Grisha is fascinating, the Darkling mysteriously alluring, and the elements of Russian lore add a unique element to the story. The magic, mystery and romance will hook readers and leave them eager for more!
