Summary
After graduating from college with a degree in medieval history, the author worked at Westwind Cremation and Burial in Oakland, California. She shares procedures of how corpses are treated and disposed of. She genuinely believes that people often miss out on a real and wholesome experience with death. The funeral industry has created a too sanitized and too cosmetic practice without direct family involvement.
Critique
The author, a Los Angeles-based mortician, death theorist, founder of "The Order of the Good Death" and host and creator of the "Ask a Mortician" web series, shares some of her experiences with death and the dead. A compelling read.
