Summary
Gabi Hernandez chronicles the events of her senior year in her diary. She talks about her struggle with her weight, her best friend's pregnancy, her other best friend's homosexuality, her father's drug addiction, and her desire to get out her town and go to college. She has a lot going on in her life, but she soon discovers that poetry provides her with the perfect outlet.
Critique
This is definitely an example of why you should not judge a book by its cover. I was initially put off by the bizarre cover art, but once you get past that you get to meet the delightful Gabi! She is honest and funny and her voice rings true. An edgy teen read that doesn't pull any punches.
