Summary
Dee and her brother Simon were raised by a single mom--the beautiful and smart Annette, who brought them up lovingly if not traditionally. Besides disappearing for months on end and having a version of game night that included teaching the kids spy games, Annette brought home the bacon by working for the CIA in covert ops. As an adult, Dee has tried to live a normal life, but when it seems like her very boring and normal husband Patrick might be deceiving her, Dee must rely on the lessons her mom taught her to find out what he's up to--or just to stay alive.
Critique
This is a fine thriller with a classic noir mystery feel. Due to flashbacks to Dee's childhood and descriptions of Annette's exciting past, this thriller is a bit slower paced to start but picks up its pace in the second half of the book. With clever plot twists and a satisfying ending.
