Summary
Beginning right after events in The Queen of the Tearling, Queen Kelsea is adjusting to her new life and responsibilities. Having enraged The Red Queen, Kelsea knows the Tearling is about to be invaded. As troops get closer, Kelsea finds herself falling into trances and dreaming of a woman named Lily. Lily lived before the Crossing in the 21st-Century. As Kelsea's connection with Lily grows, she can feel herself changing. Soon she doesn't even recognize herself in the mirror and finds that she has immense power at her command. But time is running out for both the Queen and the Tearling and Kelsea must use the lessons she learns through Lily and embrace her new powers as she prepares her country and herself for war.
Critique
This is an exciting sequel that answers many (but not all!) questions left in the first book. I eagerly await the next installment in this high fantasy, female-driven series.
