Summary
A year after her daughter Calla was murdered by her boyfriend Karl, 49-year-old Maris is unsurprisingly finding it hard to move on. Her husband Jeff has left her, the murder trial has left her finances in utter ruin, and the murderer's father, Ron, who was once a friend, is looking for forgiveness. Unable to see beyond her rage and grief, Maris goes into hiding by renting a short term apartment in a bad part of town, begins to call herself Mary, and reluctantly begins to associate with new people--and realizes that they have secret broken lives all of their own.
Critique
This novel of psychological suspense is well-paced and thought-provoking. Ultimately a satisfying read.
