Summary
When she returns home after her mother's death, Rachel Woodley discovers a current photograph of her supposedly deceased father. He is an earl, married, with two other children. Rachel is devastated to learn that what she has believed to be the truth about her past has all been a lie!She is determined to find out about her other family no matter what the consequences.
Critique
Rachel is a well-developed, likeable character who is constantly questioning her moral decisions as she comes to terms with her own individual identity. The author clearly shows the differences between the social classes and how it is not easy to switch from one class to another.
