Summary
Abigail Lawless, the coronerís young daughter, gets too involved with a suicide which may have been a murder. A young servant hides her pregnancy from her employer, the Nesham family, and murders her newborn. (The Neshamís are part of the Brethren, a radical Christian sect.) Before the young girl can be brought to trial she is found dead. While investigating without her fatherís permission, Abigail draws negative attention to herself. She and her fatherís apprentice, Ewan Weir, almost become murder victims themselves.
Critique
