Summary
In 1947, the original Surf Ballroom burned down. Lorraine Kindred knows more than she is telling sixty years later. During World War II, POWs from Germany were sent to the United States. Some ended up in Iowa. Some ended up working on the Kindred farm after Lorraine’s brother Pete enlisted. The POWs who worked for the Kindred’s were well-fed and treated fairly. Lorraine’s friendship with one of them, Jens, turns from friendship to love. Something awful happened that night in 1947 and Lorraine’s memories are rekindled after a night at the rebuilt Surf Ballroom 60 years later.
Critique
Inspired by the real-life Surf Ballroom, this is a story of love, loss and redemption.
