Summary
New Jersey’s first female Deputy Sheriff Constance Koop often handles morality charges brought against young women. Edna Heustis is arrested, but it’s determined she left home to contribute to the WWI effort perhaps going to France. 16-year-old Minnie Davis uses a forged marriage certificate to escape her home life. Her parents want her sent to a reformatory. In addition 18-year-old Fleurette, Constance and Norma’s supposed sister, runs away to join a traveling vaudeville act.
Critique
The main characters are based on real people and events are often based on experiences of real women. This entry in the Kopp sisters novels is the funniest of the trio.
