Attorney Avery Stafford leaves her job in South Carolina to assist in the care of her cancer-stricken father. At a meet and greet event at a local nursing home Avery meets May Crandal. Seeing an old photo in May’s room makes Avery think there might be a link between May and her Grandma Judy. May’s real name was Rill Foss until she and her siblings became part of black-market adoptions practiced by the Tennessee Children's Home. The mystery begins.
This is a difficult tale to imagine. The novel was inspired by firsthand accounts of the Tennessee Children's Home Society that existed into the 1950's.
