Summary
Wealthy Londoner Diana Cowper, mother to famous actor Damien Cowper, is found murdered in her home six hours after she planned her funeral. Brilliant, eccentric and unorthodox, ex-police detective Daniel Hawthorne is called in to help solve the mystery. Hawthorne is also looking for someone to write his memoirs and chooses mystery author Anthony Horowitz to follow him on his investigation. At the mercy of the unpredictable Hawthorne, Horowitz quickly discovers that he is writing a story he cannot control.
Critique
This clever, old-fashioned mystery is made fresh by the author's appearance as a character in his own novel. This start in a new series is a fun and original read.
