Summary
Arthur Less thinks life can't get worse--he's a failing novelist, he's about to turn fifty and his long-time lover is marrying someone else. In order to avoid the big day (Arthur's been invited), Arthur decides instead to accept every literary invitation he's been offered. Arthur heads out on a journey that will take him around the globe, and that will give him plenty of time to reflect on his life, even if he truly doesn't want to.
Critique
