Summary
A veteran and POW, Ernt Allbright, returns from Vietnam an angry, mistrusting and changed man. Gifted some property in Alaska, Ernt moves his wife Cora and young daughter Lenni north for a fresh start. Instead, the three find themselves in an unforgiving wilderness. Survival becomes even harder for Cora and Lenni as the days get longer and Ernt becomes increasingly violent.
Critique
This emotional coming of age novel is hard to put down. Hannah knows how to pull at her readers' heartstrings and this novel is packed with tragic events--keep those tissues nearby.
