Summary
Maude Gage Baum, wife of the late author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, learns his book is being made into a film in 1939 and fights to be allowed on set. In alternate chapters, Maude's life as a suffragette, her days at Cornell University and her marriage to L. Frank Baum is traced through their hardscrabble life in late 19th-century middle America.
