Summary
In the late 1930s, Chi Chi Donatelli is living on the Jersey Shore, desperate to make it in the music business, when she meets and befriends young band singer Saverio "Tony Arma" Armandonada, who is about to become a big star. The two, drawn to each other's personalities, looks, and talent, begin working together, writing songs and performing, and eventually marry--but being Tony's wife will prove itself a roller coaster of a life for Chi Chi.
Critique
Trigiani is a master at portraying the lives of Italian families and realistically flawed characters. The age and music of the Big Band era come to life in this novel that is a funny, sad and bittersweet look at the life of a strong woman, spent loving an unfaithful man.
