Summary
Recently divorced Cara Hargraves discovers a WWII diary while working for an antiques dealer. The journal tells the story of a wartime romance between Louise Keene and Paul Bolton. Young Louise runs away from home, falls in love with pilot Paul, marries, and joins the British army becoming a “gunner girl”. Cara reads the journal and wants to connect the item with relatives of the author. She gets help in her search from neighbor Liam McGown. They eventually find a 94-year-old cousin of Louise’s who shares the rest of the story.
Critique
The chapters alternate between present day and WWII era. A charming quick read.
