Summary
Amos Decker returns to his home town on a memorial visit to the graves of his murdered wife and daughter. While there, he is confronted by a man whom he helped to convict in his very first assignment as a detective. The alleged criminal, now terminally ill and released from prison as a hardship case, insists that he is not guilty and challenges Amos to prove it. When Amos unofficially reopens the case, he triggers a volatile sequence of events as he steps on a dangerous criminal network that is still operating.
Critique
There is a lot going on in the life of the series' protagonist, both personally and professionally. There is also a lot going on with regards to the plot in this fifth volume of the series. But Baldacci deftly manages all of it and the reader will be engaged to the very end. Recommend.
