Summary
Theo Faber, a troubled psychotherapist, obtains a job at the Grove mental health facility after he becomes fascinated by one of its inmates. Artist Alicia Berenson has been incarcerated at the facility for murdering her husband in cold blood, and has refused to speak ever since, but now that Theo is in charge of her care, she might find she has something to say, after all.
Critique
This twisty read goes back and forth between Theo's narration and Alicia's diary, revealing clues (and plenty of red herrings), along the way to its jaw-dropping conclusion. A fast-paced and clever work of psychological suspense.
