Summary
Lucy lost her mom at a young age, so when she marries Ollie, she hopes to have a great relationship with his mother, Diana. Unfortunately, even years later, the wealthy and altruistic Diana has remained cold towards her daughter-in-law, and has managed to criticize and ostracize her own children plenty of times along the way. When Diana is found dead of an apparent yet suspicious suicide, the police are on Lucy's doorstep asking, "who could have wanted Diana dead?"
Critique
With its use of the popular dual story line, twists and turns, and an unreliable narrator, readers of domestic suspense will be pleased by Hepworth's excellent character development that makes this one stand apart. Diana is a complex character that inspires equal love and hate, and her life story is a subplot just as readable as its mystery.
